On April 8th Ty and Sara Campbell were recognized as IUSD’s 2025 Spirit of Philanthropy recipients. Established in 1989, the IU Indianapolis Spirit of Philanthropy Award recognizes individuals and organizations dedicated to supporting the IU Indianapolis campus and who generously contribute and provide volunteer leadership to enhance opportunities for students, faculty, and staff at IU Indianapolis.
Ty is a member of the Indiana University School of Dentistry DDS Class of 1987. He has also served as the president of the Alumni Association board and is currently the board’s Secretary/Treasurer.
The Campbells have established the Tyrus Campbell, DDS and Sara Flora Campbell Predoctoral Dental Scholarship which supports a 4th year dental student who is from Indiana, and intends to practice in Indiana after graduation.
Description of the video:
I uh graduated from the IU School of Dentistry in 1987 and uh I made my practice on the north side of Indianapolis and practiced in that area for 35 years. I retired uh in uh August officially of 2022. I had a great experience in dental school. Um I felt like that being here was my dream to go on to graduate school and be a dentist. And u I was here for four of the best years of my life. I thought we have a hidden gem here. Uh this is not only the only uh dental school in the state of Indiana, but it is um one of
the best dental schools uh in the nation, if not in the world. And um I think that we sometimes take it for granted a little bit. And I think it's important for alumni to remember that uh this is something to be proud of. This is something to support and something to uh uh lend a hand with not only scholarships but uh support for the school in general. I would do this all over again. I would uh go right back to Ball State and u I would uh get my undergrad degree and apply to dental school and I would start my career all
over again. And I can't really say anything more positive about um a career well spent than to say that I would do this all over again.
