National journal article examines IU dental school model for student involvement in oral health care advocacy, offers best practices for implementing program at other institutions

An article published in the December 2012 issue of the Journal of Dental Education, a scholarly publication from the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), examines a model for student involvement in oral health care advocacy at Indiana University and offers best practices for implementing the program at other institutions.

“Oral Health Policy Forum: Developing Dental Student Knowledge and Skills for Health Policy Advocacy,” written by Drs. Karen M. Yoder and Burton L. Edelstein, describes the planning, sequential improvements and outcomes of Indiana University School of Dentistry’s annual Oral Health Policy Forum.

Dr. Yoder is the IU dental school's director of civic engagement and oral health policy and an IU professor of preventive and community dentistry. Dr. Edelstein is a senior fellow in public policy and president emeritus of the Children's Dental Health Project and a professor of clinical dentistry and clinical health policy and management at Columbia University.
