James E. Jones attended the University of Kentucky, graduating with a Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Zoology (1973, 1977).He attended the University Of Louisville School Of Dentistry and received the Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (1978). Following the completion of his dental degree, he completed a residency in Pediatric Dentistry (1978-1980) at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children at Indianapolis, Indiana. He received a Certificate of Specialty in Pediatric Dentistry form Indiana University School of Dentistry. From 1980-1983, he was in the private practice of Pediatric Dentistry in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

 

1983, he accepted a full-time teaching position as Assistant Professor of Pediatric Dentistry, Indiana University School of Dentistry and received the Master of Science in Dentistry from the School of Dentistry(1983). He completed a United Cerebral Palsy Clinical Dental Fellowship (1983-1984) as well as a Dental Faculty Fellowship sponsored by the American Fund for Dental Health (1986-1987).

 

Following promotion to Associate Professor of Pediatric Dentistry in 1984 and Associate Professor of Surgery, Plastic Surgery Section, at Indiana University School of Medicine in 1985, he became a Robert Wood Johnson Dental Health Services Research Fellow at Harvard University in 1987. He received a certificate in Dental Health Services Research from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 1989. From 1989 through 1993 he was Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. During his tenure at the University of Tennessee, he was also Director of Extramural Programs for the of Dentistry as well as Director of the University of Tennessee Craniofacial Anomalies Team. In 1993, he received his Ed.D from the Indiana University Graduate School of Education.

 

 From August 1993 to August 2005, he was Dean of the School of Health Sciences, Professor of Dental Education, Chairman and Director of Dental Education at Indiana University Purdue University, Fort Wayne and Director of the IPFW Health Sciences Research Institute. During the 2000-2001 academic year, Dr. Jones served as a Congressional Fellow in the 107th Congress with the senior Senator from Indiana, Senator Richard Lugar. In 2003 he received his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Empresarial University. He is presently Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Indiana University School of Dentistry. He maintains a part-time private practice in pediatric dentistry in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists.

 

 Dr. Jones has published over 85 articles, book chapters, and research abstracts in the dental, medical, and education literature. He has obtained over 6.0 million dollars in educational, service, training, and research grants. He has presented over 100 lectures in the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Middle East on a variety of topics related to higher education.
